Set Construction

The scenery and props which provide the setting for any play are vital to creating the illusion of another place or time.

Whether you are a master carpenter, a skilled artist, or an apprentice, there is always a place for your help.  The sets are designed by the head of the construction crew.  People with all degrees of carpentry skills put the sets together.  Painters with skills from basic wall painting to true artistic talent are then needed to turn the wood into scenery.

Props are the small items that turn the scenery into detailed scenes.  Prop managers need to be scavengers to find the props needed, and good organizers to maintain and keep track of them.

Even if you are new to building and painting, we can always find a place for willing workers

Construction takes place 2-3 nights a week, depending on the show, in the basement of the State Theatre.  Hours are usually 7-9pm.  The construction crew also helps with load-in the week prior to opening night.  "Load-in" refers to moving the set from the basement of the State Theatre to the stage.
